We partnered with Helm Learning to hold an exciting two-part Web Design Webinar Series. We were thrilled to see the passion that participants brought to labout UI/UX design while they created their own websites using HTML/CSS on topics ranging from clarinets to book lists! Some of the students had no experience with coding and still had a good experience with creating their own website, over the span of two days. The students used their own creativity to create some amazing websites.

Recap: April 2019 Workshop

On April 15th, in partnership with Microsoft, She Codes Art held a free workshop for Web Design. The workshop targeted girls ranging from 6th- 8th grade. In the workshop, the girls learned all about website design using programming languages: HTML and CSS. This was She Codes Art's first workshop in Microsoft, Redmond(headquarters) and it turned out to be a great success, bringing in 40+ girls who had little or no experience in coding. At the end of the workshop, girls who might have come in with no previous coding experience, now had this new website to showcase their skills.
The workshop included a team building activity, that serves as a great ice breaker to start the session. The girls were given a piece of tape, a few spaghetti sticks and a marshmallow. Each team had to use these materials to create the tallest structure. This turned out to be a great team building and a collaborative exercise. After this, we spent the next few hours talking about the basics of HTML, website design and completed the hands on coding activities, which resulted in their final, individual, creative websites. |
